From my humble beginnings riding along in tractors in corn fields and mowing lawns when I was 12 years old, to my first assembly line job in a factory at 18, to now coaching leaders as they advance their career and earn life-changing promotions, there is one core skill that I can truly name that has led to my success.

Action bias

In psychology, action bias is the tendency to favor action over inaction.  Sometimes it’s an automatic response, similar to a reflex or impulse.  Sometimes it’s based on rational thought and sometimes rational thought is absent during the decision-making.

When I was 12 years old and earned my first $15 cutting grass for my uncle, my action bias told me if I acquired a second grass cutting job I would double my income.  This meant I would have enough money to buy a Sega Genesis gaming system in half the time.  Now that’s motivation to take action!  I acted upon this notion and later that summer I used my earnings to by myself a brand-new Sega Genesis.

Action bias leads to risk-taking, innovation, and exponential personal and professional growth.  It leads to better judgment because taking action based on curiosity and embracing new experiences helps you learn more about intuition and decision-making.  It molds your perception and teaches you about how the world operates.

The more action you take the less driven by fear you will be.  Your ability to quickly navigate unknown situations will strengthen, allowing you to reduce the fear that holds so many people back from achieving more for themselves.
